Alina Fresquez Patrick (she/her) is a photographer, writer, and multidisciplinary artist based out of Brooklyn with family roots in New Mexico. She makes documentary and fine art work to explore stories of survival, land, intimacy, and displacement. Utilizing analog techniques, Alina is dedicated to slowing down the process of lens-based art to offer collaborative image-making and resist the extractive history of photography. After graduating in 2021 from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Photography & Imaging and a BA in Political Science, her work has been featured in Brooklyn Magazine, the Penumbra Foundation, Candela Gallery, and the International Center of Photography. She is a semi-finalist for a Fulbright Grant to Colombia to collaborate with and document the daily lives of women transitioning from FARC members to demilitarized life. Her first book of photography and poetry “How to grow una flor en el desierto,” published by the Penumbra Foundation in 2023, is available at Printed Matter NYC, the Penumbra Foundation, and is in the permanent collection of the International Center of Photography.
